Imagine

A 9-year-old child.

Young, bright, full of hope and wonder, laughing, smiling.

Now imagine a 9-year-old child...

...living in abject poverty: young and bright, but full of fear and concern about food, safety, a family member's well being.

This 9-year-old is ;tense, defensive, lacking confidence - the promise of childhood stolen, never experienced. Her experience over the following few years will probably make the difference between success or failure, the difference between productive or destructive behavior, between community engagement or disassociation. Her path, like that of many EHCF children, is splintering; the road before her, dividing.Choices will be made.

Donate to EHCF to aid this child in her choice.Help this child feel and see the benefits of community involvement, of being loved and respected by a larger group, outside of the world that she knows.

The relationships built during the summer at Echo Hill facilitate the transition to young adulthood for children with many advantages. It is even more powerful for the disadvantaged.

We've seen it for the past 20 years.

Please join our effort.

William's story:

William's guardian applied for sponsorship to Echo Hill Camp in 1996. The application revealed that his father died a few years previously and his mother was currently in jail. William's brother and sisters were living separately, fanned out across the country. He was not succeeding in school and was withdrawing socially. Meet William; an all-too typical applicant.

EHCF sponsored William's attendance at camp that year, and for the following five years. Every year marked an improvement in William's outlook, his willingness to participate in new endeavors, and finally, his ability to lead others.

William recently surprised his guardian by attending college - the first and only member of his family to do so. Does EHCF take credit for growing William into an engaged, productive member of his community? No. But, EHCF is honored to have played a role in the growth and development of a child who is now a man.

Please donate to EHCF. Together, we'll help the next William.
